On the success of other English competitions which have been quite popular among students in the past few years, the first English Writing Competition was held on April, 2018. English writing is one of the most demanding English language skills, which is also the weakness of many students in language learning. Therefore, English Writing Competition is expected to improve students' ability of using English comprehensively to solve practical problems, and to motivate students' creative and critical thinking.
Over 1,300 students from different colleges actively participated in the competition. Through the competition, teachers were more aware of students' specific weakness in English writing and also their thinking patterns, which would help teachers reflect on their teaching and reform their curriculum design and teaching methods in the future.
