As the foundation of English listening, speaking, reading and writing, vocabulary is an essential part of English learning and teaching. In order to make students realize the importance of vocabulary learning, English Vocabulary Competition has been held successfully for three years. The competition aims to arouse students' interest of English study, improve students’ skills of mastering vocabulary and lay a solid foundation for students to develop English listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities.
In the past three years, over 8,000 students participated in the English Vocabulary Competition, with more than 2700 participants each year. In the year of 2017, 2,790 students took part in the competition, among which 5 students was awarded Special Prize, 10 First Prize, 15 Second Prize and 122 Third Prize. Through the competition, students had a better grasp of English words and their usages in sentences and paragraphs, which further inspires their enthusiasm of reading English passages and creates an active English learning atmosphere on campus.
